Light Emitting Diode or LED lighting has been all the rage in recent years, due to LED lighting becoming extremely energy efficient, not to mention brighter over other light sources such as incandescent and fluorescent lighting, so does the LED torch flashlight.
A flashlight is a hand-held electric-powered light source. Conventional torch uses a small incandescent light bulb as the light source. Typical flashlight designs consist of the light source mounted in a parabolic or other shaped reflector, a transparent lens to protect the light source from damage and debris, a power source (typically electric batteries), and an electric power switch.
However, as the new developed technology of LED bulb, many manufacturers adopt the LED bulb as the light source. LEDs have existed for decades, mainly used as low-power indicator lights. As the result of the low consumption made LED torch flashlights possible with power and running time better than some incandescent lights.
LEDs have good performance on energy saving, so they use less battery energy than incandescent light bulbs. So the lifespan of this LED flashlight is much longer than the traditional ones.
Another reason why the LED torch flashlights take the big share of the market is that this torch may consume 1 watt or more from the battery, producing heat as well as light. Heat dissipation for the LED often indicates that LED flashlights have aluminum bodies to dissipate heat and can become warm during use.
